Michelle Pfeiffer is a mom letting loose — on national TV — in her new holiday film, Oh. What. Fun.
The family comedy, which hits Prime Video on Wednesday, December 3, follows Pheiffer, 67, as Claire Clauster, a mom who feels unappreciated by her family during Christmas and decides to set off on her own, spontaneous adventure. Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, Denis Leary, Dominic Sessa, Devery Jacobs, Havana Rose Liu, Jason Schwartzman, Rafaella Karnaby and Drake Shehan also star.
In Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek of the Michael Showalter-directed film, Claire starts on her journey when she finds herself named a winner on her favorite program, The Zazzy Tims Show. Zazzy (played by Eva Longoria) announces to viewers everywhere that after a “record number of applications” — 8,000 total — their top finalists were in the building.
“Let’s give a round of applause to the fabulous winners of the holiday mom contest!” Zazzy says as Clarie’s family watches from afar on TV. Horrified, they quickly realize that it’s the contest Claire has been mentioning to them all holiday season.

“The holiday mom contest she’s been texting and emailing me about this for weeks. I never responded. Did you?” Jones’ Channing asks her siblings (Moretz and Sessa), to which they reply, “No,” and “Ditto.”
The scene then cuts to Claire, who seems bewildered by where she is. As she’s swept onto the live stage alongside the other moms screaming with excitement, she settles in and begins her own celebration, breaking out in the running man and other dance moves.
Claire’s family looks on at the TV, shocked to see her, until neighbor Jean Wang (Joan Chen) breaks the silence. “I told her not to go off those hormones,” she says while shaking her head.
Oh. What. Fun. began as a short story written by Chandler Baker that Amazon OriginalStories published in 2021. Us’ sneak peek takes place after Clarie’s family accidentally leaves her behind — a la Kevin in Home Alone — from an important family Christmas outing that she planned. Brokenhearted after one too many times of her loved ones failing to support her, Claire heads off on a road trip to the Zazzy Show, where she and the talk show host immediately connect.
Pfeiffer gushed over getting to partner up with Longoria, 50, for the moment, who she called a “wonderful scene partner.”
“We were able to explore these complex dynamics of womanhood in such a collaborative way,” she explained in a statement. “The scene captured something so universal, these women having an honest conversation about the invisible work they do and the appreciation they crave. It’s funny but it’s also touching because every mother has probably felt this way at some point.”
Pfeiffer noted that when she read the script, written by Baker, she “immediately connected” with Claire because of how she represents “so many moms who are the unsung heroes of their families. Especially during the holidays.” (Pfeiffer, for her part, is mom to kids Claudia Rose and John Henry, whom she shares with husband David E. Kelley.)

“She’s this incredibly capable person who makes everything look effortless. But inside, she’s yearning to be seen and appreciated,” Pfeiffer continued. “And what I really loved is that this isn’t just another holiday movie.
