Hal & Harper costars Lili Reinhart and Cooper Raiff candidly addressed the chances of bringing the show back for a second season after an emotional finale.
During the Sunday, November 30, episode of the MUBI series, Hal (Raiff) and Harper (Reinhart) made major changes in their lives to break the cycle of grief and trauma that originated from their dad, played by Mark Ruffalo. Harper prepared to move overseas for a fresh start despite how it would separate her from her brother.
The siblings celebrated their dad and his partner, Kat (Betty Gilpin), who welcomed their first child together.
“I’m really hopeful for all of them,” Raiff, 28, exclusively told Us Weekly. “I think that Hal is going to grow leaps and bounds without Harper in the same city. I imagine him living with Kate and Dad and his new sibling. But I think he’s eventually going to get the boot.”

Reinhart, 29, meanwhile, was hopeful about Harper’s future from here.
“Loving someone from a distance is so different from loving them when they’re under the same roof as you. I think you have to have that. It’s the weird part of growing up is suddenly you move out of the home that you’ve lived in your whole life, with the people under that roof and you’re just like, ‘OK, bye. I guess I’ll never be back here again,’” she reflected. “That’s such a bizarre thing.”

The actress pulled from her own experience. “That happened to me. I moved out at 18 and I did move back home for six months because I was depressed and needed to go home. But then when I moved back out at 19, that was it,” she noted. “I will never live in the same home as my siblings and my parents ever again. That’s such a bizarre thing to have happened.”
Reinhart continued: “But you learn how to love them in a different way. It’s a bit more physically distant — but just like emotionally — you have to shift. I think that Harper would end up loving Hal even more from a distance.”

While teasing what could come next, Raiff suggested a possible scenario for the future.
“Harper is trying to break free but there are these little subtle things scattered throughout that. I think Harper is deeply uncomfortable with it too. I like to think she’s in London but she’s a little obsessed on her phone like, ‘What is Hal doing? And is Hal OK?’” he shared. “It doesn’t probably feel comfortable to watch your little brother spread his wings. There’s a lot of, like, interesting things that would happen.”
The duo acknowledged that the story is just getting started — but what does that mean for a possible season 2? Raiff and Reinhart remained more tight-lipped about the chances of more episodes.
Hal & Harper is currently streaming all episodes on MUBI.
