University of Maine redshirt senior forward Adrianna Smith posted the program’s first triple-double in 10 years over the weekend.
Smith poured in 19 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in Saturday’s 69-46 victory over Saint Francis. That contest was a Turkey Tip-Off Tournament consolation game at Iona University’s Hynes Athletics Center in New Rochelle, New York.
It was the 42nd time Smith had reached double figures in at least two categories. She has racked up 41 double-doubles in her career to go with her triple-double from Saturday.
The last Black Bear women’s basketball player to notch a triple-double was Liz Wood, who had 11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a 68-54 victory over UMass Lowell on Jan. 14, 2015.
Interestingly, Smith and Wood are both Virginia natives. Smith is from Reston and Wood is from Catlett, which is just 38 miles from Reston.
Smith enters Monday night’s home game against Boston University leading America East in double-doubles with four.
She was second in scoring (17.3 points per game), rebounding (9.4) and assists (5.3).
Nationally, among players from 359 Division I schools, she is tied for 43rd in assists, tied for 49th in rebounds and tied for 72nd in scoring.
Smith goes into the BU game ranked 13th in program history in career points (1,280), 10th in rebounds (777) and 12th in assists (315).
As of Monday afternoon, she is 15 points behind Stephanie Guidi for 12th place, four rebounds behind Lauree Gott for ninth and 15 assists behind Julie Bradstreet for 11th.
Smith and Wood are the only players in school history with at least 1,200 points, 700 rebounds and 315 assists.
Wood concluded her career with 1,462 points, 902 rebounds and 363 assists.
Smith missed all of last season after having knee surgery.
She is a two-time All-America East first team selection and the 2022-23 AE Player of the Year.
