Ellsworth’s water department plans to interrupt supply to all of its customers Thursday morning as it works on its distribution pipe network on the west side of the city.
The outage applies only to water department customers, who should expect to have low pressure or no pressure beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, city officials said. The outage is “expected to last through the morning,” they said.
The outage comes at a time when the city has had to contend this year with multiple road projects and related work, including other projects aimed at improving its public water system . Next year the city plans to start work on a new $20 million water intake plant on Branch Lake to boost capacity to its customer base, which has been growing rapidly as new residential and commercial properties have been developed in Ellsworth.
Customers on the west side of the Union River — including along Bucksport and Surry roads and side streets along those roads and off the western end of Main Street — will be without water during the outage and will be under a boil water order when water pressure is restored. Households subject to the boil water order will get additional information directly from the city, city officials said.
Affected residents should prepare and secure a supply of water they may need for drinking, cooking or household tasks during the outage, city officials said.
“We understand that water disruptions are challenging, and we appreciate your patience as we complete this important work to maintain the safety and reliability of our system,” they said.
