The Penobscot County Board of Commissioners has named an interim administrator after Scott Adkins announced his resignation in October.
Gary R. Lamb’s tenure as interim Penobscot County Administrator started Tuesday, according to the board. Adkins’ resignation from the position took effect Nov. 7.
Lamb most recently served nearly four years as the city manager of Hallowell, a position he left in June, citing a desire to spend more time with family.
Before working in Hallowell in 2021, Lamb spent time as the town administrator in Waterboro for eight years and as Greenville’s town manager.
“Gary brings deep experience, a steady leadership presence, and a strong commitment to public service,” the Commissioners said in a joint statement. “His collaborative approach and history of community-centered decision-making make him the right choice to guide the county at this time.”
The county government covers the county jail, sheriff’s office, registry of deeds and probate court, and it’s responsible for services for residents of the unorganized territories that fall within county lines.
Lamb could not immediately be reached for comment.
