Jonathan Van Ness is letting fans into the final season of Queer Eye.
The hairstylist and podcast host, 38, told Us Weekly exclusively that filming the Netflix show’s 10th season in Washington D.C., amid the current political “atmosphere,” was “surreal.”
“We finished filming in DC for season 10 in August. It’ll come out sometime next year,” Van Ness shared while discussing his new Patreon special, Sleep with JVN. “It was really such a great experience. Wrapping everything up in Washington D.C. was, visually, very pretty. It’s a really pretty city, but also very surreal. We started filming the show [during] [President Donald] Trump‘s first administration in Atlanta in 2017. …It was interesting to be back there in this atmosphere.”

Van Ness noticed during his travels in the city that people were carrying “so much stress and sadness” and often seeking “community, love, reassurance and guidance.” The reality star added that he was “grateful” to be able to offer that connection through the show, which follows Van Ness and his costars Antoni Porowski, Jeremiah Brent, Karamo Brown and Tan France as they advise and support people in need of a lifestyle makeover.
Queer Eye not only provided “light and joy” for its guests, but also taught Van Ness how to “regulate my emotions in really difficult circumstances,” according to the comedian. Van Ness told Us that he had to navigate “some of the most painful experiences of my life” while making the show, including deaths in the family, as well as beautiful moments like marrying husband Mark Peacock in 2020.
Through it all, Van Ness has found a way to heal and move forward. He is now encouraging others to do the same in his new special, which explores sleep, reiki and yoga. In each segment, Van Ness learns from leading wellness experts, including Dr. Shelby Harris, a behavioral sleep specialist who is featured in an exclusive clip shared with Us Weekly.
“It’s a community where I’m focusing on learning to do things better, whether that’s work-life balance, finances, mental health, physical health, [or] understanding the world around me,” he said. “This episode of our Patreon, this special, is about sleep. It’s about how we can connect to sleep better. If we’re not getting good sleep, we’re not going to show up in the world the way that we want to. Sleep is just such an important part of our overall daily wellness journey that we don’t focus on a lot, or at least I don’t.”
Sleep with JVN may explore wellness practices, but Van Ness is careful not to refer to them as “trends.” The special is about sharing information and keeping audiences aware, regardless of what’s currently popular, the Netflix star explained.
“I think the idea of trends can kind of cloud a lot of good information because you think like, ‘Oh, that’s trending,’” Van Ness shared. “There is so much good information in things that are trending, and also, there’s just too much trending stuff. It’s hard to dissect what’s worth spending my time on and what’s not worth spending my time on. I’m getting better and really trying to create a space where people aren’t worn out by learning, but are empowered by information and use that information to make themselves better.”
Sleep with JVN will premiere on his Patreon on Friday, November 20, at 9 P.M. ET.
