As the Fire Country universe grows, fans and cast alike are throwing possible spinoff ideas out there — such as Wine Country.

Diane Farr, who plays Sharon, spoke exclusively to Us Weekly about expanding the franchise with another show, saying, “Jules Latimer sent me a picture of a business in Canada called Sleep Country. There was also a lot of talk between myself and Morena Baccarin about doing Wine Country.”

She continued: “I love that idea where all the women of the two shows just go off and retire and become vendors — like Max [Thieriot] our fearless leader [who owns Senses Wines]. … Also Prequel Country about Sharon and Vince.”

The town of Edgewater was introduced when Fire Country premiered in 2022 with inmate Bode (Thieriot) returning home and volunteering for the California Conservation Camp Program during season 1 of the hit show. The season 2 backdoor pilot aired in April 2024 and the show received a straight-to-series order one month later.

‘Fire Country’ Stars Who Would — or Should — Appear on Sheriff Spinoff

Sheriff Country, which premiered in October, centers around Mickey (Baccarin) a.k.a Sharon’s (Farr) stepsister who was at odds with her in the past. Mickey investigates criminal activity and patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a murder involving her wayward daughter.

Multiple outlets have also reported that the TV universe could continue to grow after Jared Padalecki was cast in a three-episode arc on Fire Country, which would set him up for a spinoff.

“Who knows where this character goes down the road? That’s all kind of just TBD. But in the meantime, we just wanted to create a really exciting and fun character arc for him on this show,” Thieriot, 37, told Us in October 2024. “We also wanted to introduce him as somebody who’s a part of this world but feels different than our world. Somebody who comes from a different part of the state — a different part of California — and somebody who has a totally different vibe.”

Thieriot previously hinted that he had plans for more possible projects within and without the franchise. “I think there’s still a lot of room to explore,” he teased to Us in May 2024. “There’s more room to explore in Edgewater and outside of Edgewater.”

For now, Fire Country is focused on picking up the pieces after Vince’s (Billy Burke) death and Gabriela’s (Stephanie Arcila) departure.

“It was very clear that the producers or writers were going to make some kind of change. It was Billy who told us all. He told the cast in a group note saying that he wasn’t coming back — it was pretty devastating,” Farr, 56, recalled to Us. “Everyone was sad and I felt like I was coming back in with only half my character because they’re so tied.”

CBS Cancels 2 Planned Spinoff Shows — But Which Could Still Premiere?

Farr was “very nervous” to return without Burke by her side, adding, “I definitely had time to wrap my head around it. We get to have one meeting a year with our showrunner to suggest what we would like to see our character do. There was one year where I asked to show menopause on TV because it was truly happening in my own life. I thought it would be good for America to address that.”

After season 3, Farr asked to properly highlight “what happens if someone dies” in the line of duty.

“[I wanted us to show] how big that is for the community and to please allow me to grieve for a really long time,” she added. “It’s hard on TV. It’s such a common journey for all of us but you can’t do grief week after week after week. It’s too hard. So I was like, we have to find a balance and our showrunner and I spent a lot of time going over the five stages of grief so that it could look different.”

Farr continued: “Anger is really active. There’s a lot of anger coming for Sharon and the other the most moving one is Sharon is always bartering with God because it’s a little bit of madness. You’re negotiating with something you can’t see about things that only matter to you. So we have a bit of both of those.”

Fire Country airs on CBS Fridays at 9 p.m. ET. New episodes will be streaming the next day on Paramount+.
