The federally funded Job Corps training centers in Bangor and Limestone will soon start accepting application again, after it was announced earlier this year that the programs would be shutting down.
According to the Office of Republican Sen. Susan Collins, the program has been approved to restart. Details on when applications will be processed were not immediately available.
In June, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that it would start a “phased pause in operations” of its 99 contract-operated Job Corps sites, including the Bangor and Limestone sites.
“I am so glad that the two Job Corps Centers in Maine—the Loring Job Corps Center and the Penobscot Job Corps Center—are no longer facing closure,” Collins said Friday evening.
Job Corps is an education and career training program offered at no cost to low-income young people ages 16 to 24. There are more than 120 campuses across the country, according to Job Corps.
