CARIBOU, Maine — A man accused of providing the drugs that killed two Fort Fairfield residents will serve five years of a 20-year prison sentence.
Landon Larsen, 45, of Presque Isle, was sentenced Thursday at Aroostook County Court in Caribou on one charge of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs. Larsen appeared on video from the Maine State Prison, where he is currently serving a term for an unrelated charge.
On March 31, 2024, Troy Theriault, 52, and Krissy Taggett, 41, were found unresponsive in a Fort Fairfield home. Police arrived to find both deceased, Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matt Cummings said at the time.
The state medical examiner’s office ruled that Theriault and Taggett died of an overdose of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Police arrested Larsen for trafficking the drugs on which the two overdosed. The Aroostook County grand jury indicted Larsen on Dec. 12, 2024, with two counts of Class A felony aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs resulting in death, a crime punishable by up to 30 years incarceration and a $50,000 fine.
Larsen was also indicted for Class B and Class C unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs and Class C unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
Larsen pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of aggravated trafficking. The other charges were dismissed, according to court documents.
Justice Stephen Nelson sentenced him to 20 years incarceration, all but five years suspended, four years probation and a $400 fine.
Under his probation, he must pay $10 per month to the Department of Corrections, must not use or possess alcohol or illegal drugs and must submit to random drug and alcohol testing. He is also to receive substance abuse counseling, and is prohibited from owning or using firearms.
