“Lonely” and “Locked Up” singer Akon has been arrested, Us Weekly can confirm.
The 52-year-old musician (real name Aliaune Thiam) was arrested on November 6, in Alpharetta, Georgia, according to jail records viewed by Us. He was released later that same day.
Akon had been booked on an out-of-state warrant for his failure to appear over a suspended license.
A police report obtained by Us stated that Akon “complied” with the arresting officers’ requests.

“He complied by remaining calm and stated he was aware of the warrant,” the report continued. “He was released to the on-duty detention officers along with the warrant confirming it.”
Akon has not further addressed his arrest. Us has reached out to his reps for comment.
The musician rose to fame in 2004 with the release of his debut single, “Locked Up.” His other hits include “Lonely,” “Pot of Gold,” “Smack That,” “I Can’t Wait,” “I Wanna Love You” and “Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na).”
“When you [have] been in the business for so long, you start to lose your love for it,” he told Grammy.com in July. “My mindset and how I’m approaching all this is totally different [now]. My energy is completely at an all time high. I feel like a brand new artist again.”
At the time, Akon revealed he was entering a “new era” of his career.
“I think this new era of me is going to be more on the executive side of things. I really want to reshape music back to feel-good music, music that reminds you of moments in your life,” he told the outlet. “There’s a lot of music out there, but they’re not really giving me the nostalgic [feeling] where, 10 years from now, I’ll be able to play this record and be like, ‘This was a classic.’”

He added, “I think a lot of records are quickly put together just for the sake of getting views and streams. I really want to come back into the music industry and give people music that really feels good, that means something to their everyday lives again.”
In addition to working on his music career, Akon is currently in the middle of a divorce from his wife of 28 years, Tomeka “Amirror” Thiam.
Thiam filed for divorce from Akon in September, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking joint legal custody and sole physical custody of their 17-year-old daughter in documents obtained by Billboard.
Akon, who has welcomed eight other children from past relationships, married Thiam in 1996.

“The specific ingredient is really super simple,” Akon previously told Us exclusively in June 2024. “You know, you trust the person you’re with, you make sure you back them in whatever situation. Everyone’s gonna have a flaw. So it’s like, pick your best poison, right? Who are you willing to be with and deal with all that comes with them for the rest of your life?”
Akon added, “When you can say that that person is that person and it’s gonna be great as long as you want to work everything out.”
Thiam told Us at the time that “loyalty and commitment” also helped maintain their relationship.
“If you know that this person is for you, then it’s for you,” she explained. “And there’s nothing that nobody can’t do. ‘OK, baby, where my journey has gone is where I’m going.’”
Thiam is also a musician and is signed to Akon’s Konvict Kulture record label.
