HOULTON, Maine — A Maine Smoke Shop clerk stopped a Houlton man who allegedly fled the North Road shop with four cartons of cigarettes on Monday, said Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca on Wednesday
Ezra Brady, 34, was arrested and jailed in the Aroostook County Jail on a felony theft charge “based on prior history,” police said.
At about 6:34 p.m., Houlton Police Officers Cpl. Austin White and Joshua Robbins responded to a report of cigarette theft at the Maine Smoke Shop at 139 North Road.
According to police, while the officers were en route, Brady fled the shop on a bicycle, but the clerk was able to overtake him and recover the cigarettes.
Police said an in-store video captured the alleged theft.
During the investigation, the officers found the bicycle, a face mask and duct tape, according to the report.
Brady was taken to Aroostook County Jail on a probation hold and cash bail for the theft was set at $1,000.
