The family of late Dallas Cowboys lineman Marshawn Kneeland is standing up for the NFL star’s honor in the wake of his sudden death.

“There’s been social media garbage about drugs, but I can tell you Marshawn hated drugs, absolutely hated them,” Marshawn’s uncle, Preston Kneeland, told the Daily Mail in a story published on Tuesday, November 11.

Preston continued, “He never smoked, he never touched alcohol and he disliked prescription medicine. He would always try to find a natural way to treat things.”

Marshawn died on Thursday, November 6, following a police chase with authorities. His body was found in the vicinity of his crashed vehicle on the Dallas Parkway after an apparent suicide. He was 24 years old.

An official cause of death has not been released.

Jasmine Kneeland, a cousin of Marshawn’s, placed the responsibility for the Cowboys player’s death on law enforcement.

“I truly think they killed him, I truly do,” Jasmine, 33, told the Daily Mail in a story published on Saturday, November 8.

Jasmine continued, “Marshawn is not a violent person. He is not a hot head. Something here is just not right. Something made him really scared and he ran. This is nothing like him at all. He loves his family. He’s like a big kid. He likes making TikTok videos of the little ones in our family, he likes being around them a lot. He was generous with them, always buying stuff.”

Us Weekly has reached out to the Frisco Police Department for comment.

“I mean, why would he do something like that all of a sudden?” Jasmine added. “That’s not the person I know. Our family is utterly devastated.”

In the hours before his death, Marshawn’s girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, expressed concern about her partner’s well-being and told authorities he had “a history of mental illness.”

Audio obtained by Us on Monday, November 10, featured an acquaintance of Marshawn telling police that the NFL star was “not able to go to prison or to jail” shortly before his body was discovered.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones broke his silence about Marshawn’s death on Tuesday, November 11.

“I think we all have unfettered feelings about the people we love, people we work with, and this is just a time when you acknowledge that there’s no answers,” Jones, 83, said on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan. “It makes you want to live life to the fullest. It makes you want to look for the very best in what we have for each other. And in some way make sense out of these times in terms of what they can mean from helping those that are here on earth right now.”

Jones added, “All of those things are very natural, come to mind, but his death is such a national awareness thing that it takes on some of that light when we think about how we go forward.”

The Cowboys return to action for the first time since Marshawn’s death on Monday, November 17, when they travel to Las Vegas to play the Raiders during Monday Night Football.
