Bucksport’s school board election is headed to a recount Thursday afternoon after a request by the incumbent.
Keith Kneeland Jr., who sought a second three-year term representing the town on the RSU 25 board, lost the seat to Emily Fitzgerald by three votes, according to unofficial town results.
He received 770 votes to her 773; 191 ballots were left blank or went to write-in candidates. Only one seat was open to represent the town on the board this year.
Kneeland requested the recount, Town Clerk Kelly Herrick said Wednesday.
The recount will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the town office’s council chambers, according to the town. It is open to the public and will be livestreamed on the town’s YouTube channel and on Spectrum Channel 1303.
RSU 25 includes the towns of Bucksport, Orland, Prospect and Verona Island.
