Vacationing in Turkey, my husband and I became ill. We had an intestinal bacteria that was ruining our trip. We went to an emergency room for help. We were seen by a doctor, had tests, given IV fluids and antibiotics. This was accomplished in four hours for $250 each.
Medical care in the United States is a different story. Long waits in ERs, extreme costs for tests and care, too few doctors, medical debt, crucial medications are too expensive, costly insurance with high deductibles, insurance companies getting richer, while our care gets poorer and insurance companies denying us treatment. The list goes on.
My husband and I are retirees. Medicare costs us each $185 monthly and our supplemental is $700. That’s $1,070 a month! Do you think our taxes for universal health care would be more than our personal insurance costs? I don’t believe so. I think most people would pay less too!
Medicare for all can mean less expensive and better care for everyone!
