Happy Halloween! Prime Video has plenty of horror movies, but Watch With Us is recommending an old-fashioned scary flick, Ghost Story.

Not in the fightful mood? That’s OK, since Prime Video has a slew of other genres to keep you entertained.

For laughs, you can’t go wrong with Holmes and Watson, a silly take on the old Sherlock Holmes legend.

Adventure-seekers should unearth Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a sequel that doesn’t get the respect it deserves.

‘Holmes and Watson’ (2018)

Sherlock Holmes has taken many forms over the years, so it was only inevitable he’d be the star of his very own raunchy comedy, Holmes and Watson. Will Ferrell stars as the master detective, who eagerly attends the trial of his longtime nemesis, Professor Moriarty (Ralph Fiennes). He then realizes the Moriarty in the courtroom is an imposter – the real Moriarty is still free and plotting to kill Queen Victoria (Pam Ferris). It’s only Holmes, along with his trusty pal Watson (John C. Reilly), who can stop him – and maybe romance Dr. Grace Hart (Rebecca Hall) along the way.

7 New Movies to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video and More (October 31-November 2)

Holmes and Watson is the third time Ferrell and Reilly teamed up for a big-screen comedy, and while it never reaches the hysterical heights of Talladega Nights or Step Brothers, it’s still an entertaining laughfest that upends typical conventions about literature’s most famous detective. Fiennes has a ball as Holmes’ very dastardly nemesis, and reliable British actors Steve Coogan and Hugh Laurie elicit some well-earned zingers. The movie is a throwaway in the best sense of the word – it’s non-essential, but also very easy to watch and smile at.

‘Ghost Story’ (1981)

It’s Halloween, so it’s only appropriate to watch a scary movie. One you’ve probably haven’t heard of is Ghost Story, an old-school horror movie that eschews gore in favor of some old-fashioned chills. The story concerns the Chowder Society, a men’s club consisting of three elderly friends and Don (Craig Wasson), the son of a member who recently died.

Don’s father died under mysterious circumstances, and he’s determined to get to the bottom of it. He thinks the Chowder Society knows more than they let on, and that a mysterious woman named Alma (Alice Krige) is somehow involved. Is Don right? And if so, is he experiencing his own ghost story that can only end with his death?

A big reason to watch Ghost Story is the cast. The old members of the Chowder society are played by an assortment of Hollywood legends and Oscar-winning actors like Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas and John Houseman. For many of them, this was their last hurrah, and their joy in acting in such pulpy material is infectious.

‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ (2008)

Ok, hear me out – Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is actually good. The much-maligned sequel has few fans, but I’m one of them. Why? Well, it still possesses that spirit of adventure that made the first three films in the series so successful – and magical.

5 Best Prime Video Movies to Watch in October 2025, Ranked by Rotten Tomatoes Rating

No longer concerned with Nazis, Harrison Ford’s archaeologist hero faces a new enemy – Communists! Or rather Colonel Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett), who wants her hands on a mythical crystal skull that’s rumored to be buried in an ancient city in Peru. Jones wants it too, so it’s a race against time to get it — and find out what hidden powers it possesses. Helping him out is an old girlfriend, Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), and a young greaser, Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf), who might be related to Jones. Can they beat Irina and take the skull? And how does a gaggle of vine-swinging monkeys help them out?

Crystal Skull’s plot is shaky, and even in 2008, Ford was a little too old to be jumping around hidden temples in a lost rainforest, but the movie is fun and moves fast. Director Steven Spielberg knows how to stage a terrific action sequence, and the opening sequence with Jones trying to outrun an atomic bomb is one of his best. It’s goofy fun, and it makes the last entry, The Dial of Destiny, look particularly bad.
