Dancing With the Stars’ Sasha Farber is weighing in on ex-wife Emma Slater’s relationship with pro Alan Bersten — and whether it’s “awkward” to work with her on the ABC show.
“No, not at all,” Farber, 41, insisted during a recent TikTok live, per a fan video. “Definitely not awkward. I’m really happy for her and Alan and I wish them nothing but the best. That’s all I can say.”
Without sharing details, Farber explained that “things don’t always work out in life” so there’s “no point” to “ever have any hate” toward others.
“Because what’s the point? So you thank each other for your incredible time that you had together — because, you know, the time that we did have together wasn’t bad, it was amazing — and you move on and you wish the other person nothing but the best,” he explained. “There’s no point of hate, because it would only eat you up inside. So we don’t need that in life, right? Just be present, be happy, and the rest is history.”

Farber and Slater, now 36, began dating in 2011 before pressing pause on their relationship three years later. After deciding to give their romance another go-round, Farber popped the question to Slater on DWTS in 2016. The pair tied the knot two years later. In 2023, however, Farber and Slater called it quits. Their divorce was finalized the next year.
While discussing their split during a 2023 episode of the “Viall Files” podcast, Slater revealed their reason for separation was “the kid thing.”
“It’s interesting because I do want to have kids, I just don’t want to delay Sasha’s path in having kids because I know that he is ready for that,” she said. “I don’t want to talk about him too much because that’s really for him to say, but it’s about kids.”
She continued: “I do want kids. I don’t know what it is, I’m just figuring that out for myself. It’s not something I take lightly and I don’t want to enter into something that I’m not sure about because I would never do that.”

Us Weekly broke the news in 2024 that Slater and Bersten were “hooking up” after her divorce from Farber. In April, Slater and Bersten sealed their relationship with a kiss during a live DWTS show. The couple has since been by each other’s side while competing on season 34 of DWTS, where Slater is partnered with comedian Andy Richter and Bersten is dancing with actress Elaine Hendrix.
Farber, for his part, was recently linked to season 33 partner and former Bachelorette Jenn Tran. In June, a source shared that Farber and Tran were “no longer seeing each other.”
While Farber was not cast as a pro on DWTS season 34, he has had a presence in ballroom — going live on TikTok during the competition and participating in one of the show’s numbers. During a live show in September, Farber was seen embracing Slater backstage and telling her that mail was sent to his house.
“Slightly awkward moment between Emma and ex, Sasha??” a fan wrote via TikTok, while other users chimed in to add, “I did not find this awkward at all. I was actually relieved to see that they are so friendly with each other still.”
Another replied, “They were together since 2011, they’ll always have a huge part of their lives be each other!”
Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
