Thank you for Robert Klose’s recent column about MAGA. It’s true that the blue side of the aisle keeps thinking that some lie on President Donald Trump’s part will cause MAGA to fall away. Klose advises that the only solution is a “blue tsunami in the 2026 mid-term elections.”
Go to youtube and type in ” Leaving MAGA” to watch testimonials from former MAGA followers (they also have a website and Facebook page). I learned from watching some of these that, for instance, people in MAGA consume a steady diet of MAGA media rather than factual media — not surprising. What is surprising to me is that while some consider MAGA a cult, to many it’s a welcoming community that is hard to leave.
Logic explains that there is nothing we can say to convince someone to leave MAGA; it’s a decision that has to come from within. That’s not to say we should give up. I think we have to keep an open mind and an open heart, and be willing to listen to those we disagree with. To quote Pete Seeger, “It’s a very important thing to learn to talk to people you disagree with.”
