I am running for the Bangor school board because I am the product of an education system designed to funnel everyone in one direction, college. Three changes of major, graduate school, and even a year of medical school was all it took for me to realize figuring it out in college isn’t the only way.
We need to teach the next generation how the world is, and not how we want it to be. We need to be realistic with them. College is not the sole path. Internships, apprenticeships, and trade schools are also pathways to success. We do not need to force the financial burden on our kids to “figure it out.”
We need to find out why our students are not meeting academic standards. We need to remedy any educational and developmental delays caused by the lockdown, it’s our duty to do so. We need to recognize that technology is changing faster every year and start integrating it and using it like the tool it is. We need to start prioritizing the education of the next generation, they are the future after all.
We as a community need to do better for our children. We need to give them a strong foundation on which to build successful lives.
I don’t have all the answers, but will always listen. You might not always agree with me, and you may find me abrasive, but know that I do want what’s best for all our children, and I know you do as well.
