Ginny & Georgia made fans fall in love with Wellsbury, Massachusetts — but is the town a real place?
Ginny & Georgia, which premiered in 2021, follows a young single mother who moves her family to a new place after running away from her past. The Netflix series stars Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, La Torraca, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter and Raymond Ablack.
When season 3 wrapped up, Ginny (Gentry) and her brother, Austin (La Torraca), found a way to help Georgia escape prison time by framing Gil (Aaron Ashmore).
The Miller family didn’t get to celebrate their new normal for long — by the end of the episode, Ginny realized Georgia (Howey) was pregnant. The problem? It was unclear whether her estranged husband, Paul (Porter), or love interest Joe (Ablack) was the father.

“When we entered the season 4 writers’ room, I knew unequivocally without a doubt whose baby it was,” creator Sarah Lampert exclusively told Us Weekly in June. “I came into the writers’ room and I said, ‘Here’s whose baby it is. Change my mind.’ The writers’ room is phenomenal. Our writers are fantastic and truly it’s such a kinetic, live and ever-morphing thing.”
It is unclear whether the decision potentially shifted along the way. “That’s what makes the show good is it really becomes alive at every stage of the process. But certainly in the writers’ room. So it wasn’t decided,” Lampert revealed. “They’ve changed my mind before. I’ll put it that way.”
She concluded: “Oh [we were] utterly divided. We went back and forth and back and forth. It was a full-on school debate effort. It was phenomenal because there’s pros and cons story wise to both — but there’s one clear answer and I’m not going to say what it is.”
While Wellsbury appears very picturesque, some viewers may be surprised to know that it doesn’t actually exist in Massachusetts. Like many shows currently on the air, Ginny & Georgia uses Canada as its filming home base in addition to some exterior shots from the states.
Season 4, which is currently filming, brings Us back to Wellsbury after a two-season renewal.

“Our creator, Sarah [Lampert], is an infinite well of stories. I’m sure we could spin this thing for an awful long time,” Porter exclusively told Us in June. “And it’s up to Netflix on whether or not we continue on. But, let me just say to our viewers, thank you so much for tuning in over these first three seasons. We never expected the show to be a hit the way that it is — and it’s all because of you all. So thank you.”

What Towns Is Wellsbury Based On?
While Massachusetts isn’t home to Wellsbury, there are small towns such as Wellesley and West Newbury, which seemed to have inspired the hit Netflix show.
Where Has ‘Ginny and Georgia’ Filmed?
Most of the scenes in Ginny and Georgia were filmed on sound stages at Toronto’s TriBro Studios. Ginny and Georgia has also utilized a town in Ontario — Cobourg — to stand in for the fictional town of Wellsbury in the U.S.
