I am writing to urge Mainers to vote “no” on referendum Question 1. This is another attempt by a coalition of wealthy donors to restrict the right of citizens to vote. They reason, I believe, that these measures keep potentially Democratic voters from voting, which will allow them more control over policies that affect their ability to avoid taxes. They wish to accumulate even more money and power at the expense of the rest of us.
This is not about ballot security or voter fraud. It is a way to keep seniors, those with disabilities, and anyone who has difficulty accessing the polls from voting. Maine’s voting system has worked without a problem in all past elections and will continue to be suitable for future elections. A “no” vote will allow it to remain as it currently is.
In conclusion, don’t be duped by the phony assertions and claims that Question 1 is about reducing fraud. It is just another scheme to scratch citizens off voter lists. Vote “no” on Question 1.
