A man who police say was burglarizing a business allegedly told Bangor police he had a pipe bomb on him.
James McAllian, 48, of Bangor was charged with burglary and criminal threatening, according to Sgt. Jason McAmbley, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.
McAllian was allegedly burglarizing a business on Venture Way about 11 a.m. Sunday, and when officers arrived and announced themselves, he allegedly told them he had a pipe bomb, McAmbley said Monday morning.
Officers convinced McAllian to come outside through a window. The officers searched him and found no explosives.
McAllian directed the officers to where they could find the device inside. The building was evacuated, and when the bomb squad found the device, the team determined that, while it closely resembled a pipe bomb, it was inert, according to McAmbley.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
