
WARREN, Maine — One person died and two others injured Sunday afternoon Oct. 19 from a two-car crash.
The crash occurred at about 1 p.m. at the intersection of Old Augusta Road and Ridge Road, also known as Route 235, in Warren.
Knox County Sheriff Patrick Polky said a 2012 Jeep Compass was driving west on Old Augusta Road. A 2010 Acura MDX heading north on the Ridge Road.
The vehicles collided. One person made a statement that the Jeep failed to stop, but there is no other evidence of that at this time. He said the investigation continues and the reconstruction team has no opinion yet on the cause and will await the collection of all data.
A passenger in the Jeep died in the crash. The driver was taken by ambulance to the parking lot of nearby Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro and flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
The driver of the Acura was taken by ambulance to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The Jeep ended up in the woods. The victims in that car had to be removed with extrication equipment.
More information will be published after family members are notified of the victims. The people in the crash were locals, the sheriff said.
The intersection is the site of many crashes, including fatalities. The Maine Department of Transportation lists 10 crashes at the intersection from 2021 through 2023 with 13 injuries.
