The weekend is almost here, and if you’re like us, you’re already plotting out your ideal couch-and-popcorn lineup.

Netflix’s October 2025 catalog is packed with new releases, but there are also plenty of hidden gems worth rediscovering — the kind of movies that didn’t get enough love when they first came out but have aged surprisingly well.

Whether you’re in the mood for a heartwarming surfing drama, a deeply emotional family story or a clever horror-comedy with a big heart, the Watch With Us team has you covered.

Here are three underrated movies worth streaming this weekend.

‘Blue Crush’ (2002)

Anne Marie Chadwick (Kate Bosworth) was on track to become one of surfing’s greats — until a dangerous wipeout left her terrified of getting injured again. But with the help of her friends (Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake) and her new football-player boyfriend (Matthew Davis), she learns to conquer her fear and make a comeback — all while raising her little sister Penny (Mika Boorem). With its Hawaii setting, action-packed surfing scenes and message about getting back up after hardship, Blue Crush stands out as a lovable early aughts gem.

7 New Movies to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video and More (October 17-19)

It’s a movie that radiates confidence and summer nostalgia, with a killer soundtrack full of surf jams. It’s perfect for an easy weekend watch when you need a boost of motivation — or just a little sunshine on screen.

‘Still Alice’ (2014)

What does it mean when a linguist starts forgetting words? In Still Alice, Julianne Moore plays Dr. Alice Howland, a linguistics professor whose small bouts of forgetfulness lead to her being diagnosed with early-onset familial Alzheimer’s disease. While her three children (Kate Bosworth, Hunter Parrish and Kristen Stewart) rally around her, Alice’s husband John (Alec Baldwin) struggles with watching her deteriorate. Moore gives a magnificent performance in this examination of a devastating disease and the moments of grace and love that help us get through hardship.

Poignant and deeply humane, Still Alice captures the pain of loss while celebrating the beauty of holding on — even when everything feels like it’s slipping away. Watch this one if you want to curl up with a blanket and a box of tissues.

‘Little Evil’ (2017)

Gary (Adam Scott) is thrilled to be married to Samantha (Evangeline Lilly), the woman of his dreams, but he’s having trouble bonding with his new stepson, Lucas (Owen Atlas) — especially since he’s starting to believe that Lucas might be the spawn of Satan. Lucas has all the marks of an Antichrist child — people seem to die around him, he loves to stare blankly and he was conceived in a Doomsday cult. Can Gary save his family and save the world? This surprisingly warm-hearted horror comedy has a great supporting cast that includes Bridget Everett, Donald Faison and Sally Field.

9 Great Horror Movies That Are Actually Funny (October 2025)

Equal parts funny and freaky, Little Evil is a clever riff on step-parenthood and horror clichés that will keep you laughing even as it sends a few chills down your spine. Check this one out if you’re ready to lean into Halloween fun, but without too big a scare.
