Mark Sanchez broke his silence more than one week after he was stabbed and subsequently arrested in Indiana.

“Right now, I’m just focused on my recovery and I just wanted to thank the first responders Eskenazi Hospital,” Sanchez, 38, said in an interview with local news outlets Fox59 News and CBS 4 Indy outside of the Marion County Jail in Indianapolis on Sunday, October 12. “I just want to thank Dr. [Lindsey] Mossler, the surgeon. She saved my life, so I’m grateful for that.”

Sanchez subsequently started to walk away from the reporter with an apology that he “can’t answer all your questions” regarding the incident. He did note that his recovery is a “long process” before getting into the backseat of a pickup truck.

The videos from Sunday shared by local reporter Max Lewis on social media show Sanchez walking into the building with a sling on his arm.

“He was there to be fingerprinted and have his mugshot taken,” Lewis shared via X on Sunday. “The judge said he must do this before being able to leave Indiana.”

Sanchez was stabbed while at Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery Indianapolis on October 4. Police were called to the establishment, where they found Sanchez with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso.

Perry Tole, who was working for Restaurant Technologies as a delivery driver, was also found on the scene with wounds on his face. Tole, 69, alleged that he was attacked by Sanchez while working. Sanchez apparently claimed that Tole’s box truck was not allowed to be parked in the alley where the former NFL star was seen doing wind sprints. It’s been reported that the former quarterback “appeared intoxicated” during the altercation and allegedly instigated the fight with Tole.

Tole has since sued Sanchez and the Fox Corporation, claiming he sustained “serious bodily injury” because of Sanchez’s “malicious, willful, wanton or grossly negligent conduct.” (Sanchez has worked as a NFL television analyst on Fox since 2021.)

Tole further alleged in the lawsuit that he suffered severe “permanent disfigurement, loss of function, other physical injuries, emotional distress and other damages” due to the incident.

After Sanchez was taken to the hospital for his injuries, the athlete was arrested by the city’s police. On October 5, Sanchez was charged with three misdemeanors: battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

The following day, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced that Sanchez is also facing a level 5 felony charge, which means the retired athlete can be facing up to one to five years in prison.

Sanchez waived his right to a preliminary hearing, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly. He has since pleaded not guilty to all charges.

“This has been a deeply distressing time for everyone involved,” Mark’s brother, Nick Sanchez, told TMZ in a statement on October 6. “Mark and our family are incredibly grateful for the concern, love, and support we’ve received over the past few days.”
