Taylor Swift’s Suggestive ‘Wood’ Lyrics Surprise Other Stars: Best Reactions

Taylor Swift’s double entendre-filled “Wood” has the entire internet in a tizzy over the pop star’s very suggestive lyrics.

“Forgive me, it sounds cocky / He ah-matized me and opened my еyes,” Swift, 35, sings in the ninth track from The Life of a Showgirl. “Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see / His love was thе key that opened my thighs.”

She continues, “And, baby, I’ll admit I’ve been a little superstitious / The curse on me was broken by your magic wand / Seems to be that you and me, we make our own luck / New Heights of manhood / I ain’t gotta knock on wood.”

“Wood” is presumed to be about Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, who cohosts a podcast called “New Heights” with his brother, Jason Kelce. (Swift announced Showgirl was on the way via an August appearance on the show, which was previously the catalyst for their love story.)

Fans on social media also believe that Swift chose “Wood” as track No. 9 to correspond to the length of Travis’ so-called “manhood.”

Swift, meanwhile, has played coy about what inspired “Wood” and its tracklist position.

“It’s a love story,” the Grammy winner said during an Amazon Music explanation of the song. “It’s] about using, as a plot device, popular superstitions [and] good luck charms, bad luck charms and all these different ways we have decided things are good luck or bad luck — like knocking on wood and seeing a black cat. That is the way I’ve decided to explore this very, very sentimental love song.”

While Swift is staying mum about the musical inspiration, a handful of celebrity fans think that they’ve figured it out already. Keep scrolling for their best reactions:

Elizabeth Banks

“Not HARD to guess who this one is about,” Banks captioned a TikTok video of herself listening to the song for the first time, tagging both Swift and Travis’ accounts. “Loving Life of a Showgirl.”

In Banks’ footage, she gushed that the melody for “Wood” seemed “jammy” and she needed to check out the lyric video after hearing a few NSFW metaphors.

“I need to see these lyrics written out. I’m in a fantasy in my mind,” the actress quipped. “Oh, she’s really telling tales on this one.”

Nicki Minaj

Minaj live-tweeted her first reaction to hearing the full album on Friday, October 3, including “Wood.”

“#Wood is exactly what falling in love with your soulmate ‘sounds like,’” the rapper wrote via X.

Heather McMahan

The comedian said in a TikTok video that it was “fantastic” to hear Swift’s new songs about “getting d***ed down.”

“Like, she’s a baddie,” McMahan said. “She’s had her heart broken a million times, we’re over that. She’s, like, ‘It’s big.’ And we’re like, ‘Congrats!’”

Dave Portnoy

After listening to “Wood” multiple times upon its release, the Barstool Sports owner came to the realization that the track was actually about Travis’ body.

“It’s about Travis’ d***? And then you re-listen and it’s all, ‘Redwood tree’ and ‘I knew he had a big d*** and hard rock and I have to catch the bouquet.’ No. No. I’m not bobbing and weaving and jamming to a song about Travis’ d***,” Portnoy quipped in an Instagram video. “I’m a football guy and I’ve known Kelce a lot longer than I’ve known Taylor, so some of the songs you don’t want to get too into, ‘Oh, they’re talking about it like that.’ So, ‘Wood’ is out.”

Chrishell Stause

“Everything I have learned about Travis Kelsie’s [sic] wood is very much against my will,” the Selling Sunset personality wrote via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, October 5. “To clarify, I LOVE love and am very happy for any of you (her obviously included) in love. I also would find it TMI to hear about your partner’s genitalia. That’s just me! But, I don’t want to yuck your yum. I’m glad some of you love to hear about it and got just that!”

Jen Affleck

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star made up a dance to the less suggestive lyrics with her Dancing With the Stars partner, pro dancer Jan Ravnik. (Ravnik previously danced with Swift on her Eras Tour and appears in her new music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.”)

“Vibing to Taylor’s new album ON REPEAT,” Ravnik captioned a TikTok video.

Jason Kelce

Travis’ older brother shared his glowing review for the entire album during an episode of the siblings’ “New Heights” podcast later in October. The track “Wood,” as one could imagine, sparked an in-depth conversation about Travis’ body parts.

“Do you feel — not confident — do you feel cocky about the song ‘Wood?’” Jason asked Travis, referencing one of Swift’s lyrics. “It’s not just you. It’s an appendage. It’s a very specific thing.”

Travis, however, played coy about Swift’s double entendres, joking that Jason was taking it too far.

“I love that girl, so … any song that she would reference me in that way,” Travis said, trailing off. “I think you’re not understanding the song.”

Kylie Kelce

Travis’ sister-in-law also praised “Wood” on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast.

“There are some bops on there, I think everybody knows,” Kylie said, listing “Opalite” and “Wish List” as two of her favorites. “And who are we kidding? ‘Wood.’ Here’s the deal. Do I need that much detail, specifically about my brother-in-law? Probably not. But also … Good job, Trav. That’s it.”

The Life of a Showgirl is out now.
