A dog died Tuesday night in a Standish house fire.
The fire broke out about 8:59 p.m. at the home on Deerfield Drive, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The fire started shortly after someone started a generator in the garage. The three occupants smelled burning plastic and heard snapping noises before getting outside the home, Moss said Wednesday.
Investigators believe the fire began because of electrical wiring in the generator’s setup. It has been ruled accidental.
A dog died in the fire, which also destroyed the home.
The Red Cross, family and neighbors are helping the occupants.
