September was full of high-profile streaming debuts, but few shows had us as excited as The Guest, Netflix’s new Colombian thriller series.

The 20-episode drama mixes personal secrets, dangerous passions and political ambition into a story that feels both intimate and epic.

With a talented cast led by Laura Londoño, Jason Day and Carmen Villalobos, this twist-filled series promises to keep viewers hooked all season long.

Now that it’s the first weekend of October, the Watch With Us team is breaking down why The Guest is a must-watch.

The Show’s Premise Plays on Our Deepest Fears

There’s nothing scarier than your own past. That’s the premise of The Guest, which follows Silvia (Laura Londoño), a woman trying to save her crumbling marriage to her unfaithful husband, an attorney named Lorenzo, who is running for office (Jason Day). Silvia’s life begins to unravel when Sonia (Carmen Villalobos), a mysterious woman from her past, makes an unannounced visit to her home.

Silvia tries to keep up appearances, but her fear of how Sonia might impact their family becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, exposing cracks in their recently mended facade. Sonia, for her part, is torn between her connection with Silvia and her mission to destroy Lorenzo.

Netflix’s Sexy New Thriller Show Is Sinfully Good — and Worth Bingeing This Weekend

We all have things in our past that we hope to keep buried — especially when they are at odds with the version of ourselves we present to the world. But what if someone from your old life intentionally disrupted your new one? It’s a fear that’s grounded in reality, unlike some larger-than-life thriller stories.

Netflix’s Colombian Co-Productions This Year Have Been Top Tier

Netflix has been producing a lot of shows and movies with Colombian filmmakers and casts in 2025, and many of them have become hits. 100 Years of Solitude, the first filmed adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s epic novel, has received critical acclaim, and the streamer has committed to working on more high-end projects in Colombia.

In an interview with Variety, Netflix VP of Latin American Content Paco Ramos said, “Colombian popular culture — whether in film, television, or music — is enjoying global success, and we’re excited by the momentum.”

If you enjoyed 100 Years of Solitude, The Guest is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a more modern Colombian story.

The Twist Ending Has More Layers Than You Can Imagine

With 20 episodes at 50 minutes apiece, The Guest covers a lot of story territory. Character backstories and motivations are revealed, mysteries are uncovered and relationships are forever changed.

7 New Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video and More (October 3-5)

But the biggest twist is the revelation of Sonia’s true motivations and methods — we won’t reveal it here, but it’s more complex than you’d expect. If you love soapy dramas about dangerous women with mysterious pasts and sexy, morally ambiguous men, check out The Guest on Netflix.
