The attorney for former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy revealed new details about the young man’s death, shining a new light on the tragic situation.

Lacy, 24, was accused of being involved in a fatal crash in Louisiana that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall and injured two others in December 2024. In April, Lacy was found dead of an apparent suicide after a police pursuit.

Lacy’s attorney, Matt Ory, told HTV 10 on Friday, October 3, that new evidence that seems to contradict the alleged circumstances of the December crash.

Ory presented security footage from a nearby gas station that shows Lacy’s car about 70 yards behind the vehicles that were involved in the accident.

LSU Wide Receiver Kyren Lacy’s Apparent Cause of Death Revealed: Authorities

At the time of the accident, authorities believed Lacy caused the fatal crash before fleeing the scene, saying Lacy was “illegally passing the other vehicles,” causing another car to “take evasive action to avoid impact” with Lacy’s vehicle and crash into Hall’s car.

Ory now disputes that claim.

“Kyren Lacy did in fact pass four cars, there’s no disputing that,” Ory said in the HTV 10 interview. “However, he was back in his lane of travel 92.3 yards behind Mr. Hall. At the time of impact, he’s 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact … That is not how this story was ever painted, never.”

In April, months after the original accident, Lacy was involved in a police chase in Houston that lasted “several miles” and resulted in a crash. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that Lacy refused to stop for an officer and was chased. When authorities reached his vehicle after the crash, it was revealed that Lacy had shot himself.

His death came one day before he was scheduled to appear in front of a grand jury in Houston on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death and reckless operation of a vehicle in connection to the incident in December.

Former LSU defensive end Sai’Vion Jones, who played with Lacy in college before he was drafted by the Denver Broncos last year, reacted to the latest development on social media.

The Sports World Mourns Kyren Lacy After Death at Age 24

“They slander your name, your character, and painted you as the bad guy,” Jones wrote via his X account on Friday. “But we your family, teammates, and friends know the real you LLK2.”

Soon after Lacy’s death, his father, Kenny Lacy, spoke out about the importance of parents keeping up with the mental health of young adults.

“Young parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you,” Kenny wrote via Facebook in April, several hours after Lacy’s death. “Don’t be cool with ‘I’m Alright, or I’m good’ when you know deep down something isn’t right. Mental Health is real, and for the most part [and] it’s invisible. Don’t ignore the signs, even if they may seem small.”

Lacy played three seasons at LSU, accumulating 112 catches for 1,692 yards and 16 touchdowns with the Tigers. He declared for the NFL Draft just two days after the December accident, but his invitation to the NFL Combine was revoked by the league.
