CASTINE — The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Castine is pleased to announce that eleven 501c3 non-profit organizations have been awarded Pulliam Grants for 2025. The Deborah Pulliam Social Justice Grants were created to honor the memory of the late Deborah Pulliam, a longtime member of the Congregation and benefactor for social justice causes. This year’s grants total $50,000. We are honored to announce grant funding for the following organizations:
But Still I Am One – $5,000 – to fund a homelessness prevention initiative for youth.
Hancock County Habitat for Humanity – $5,000 – to support Habitat Repair Corps including recruitment of volunteers and purchase of materials.
Healthy Peninsula – $5,000 – to purchase local produce and support the Magic Food Bus program.
Cody’s Closet – $2,000 – to purchase basic necessities such as clothing and shoes in support of foster teens.
Volunteers for Hancock County Jail Residents – $3,000 – to purchase books, supplies, technology and assist in prisoner advocacy.
Families First – $5,000 – to support a safe home for families, including children, and to provide services needed for long-term success.
Interconnected Jail Counseling – $5,000 – to support a counselling team within the Hancock County Jail.
Downeast Wood Bank – $5,000 – to purchase logs for supplying firewood at no cost to those in need around the Blue Hill Peninsula.
Healthy Island Project – $5,000 – to support the Healthy Island Project Lunch Box program and the Healthy Island Project Pantry.
Downeast Community Partners – $5,000 – to enable increased nursing visits to those who want to age in place at home.
Midcoast Maine Homeless Coalition – $5,000 – to support startup costs in creating temporary transitional housing for three to four families.
Thanks to the foresight and generosity of Deborah Pulliam, UUCC is able to use its gifts to make our world a better place. Pulliam Grants are awarded annually and are open to 501c3 organizations doing social justice work of all kinds. Applications, deadlines, and ground rules for the 2026 round of grants will be published early next year on our website, www.uucastine.org.
