Dick Van Dyke isn’t letting his age get in the way of a workout!

Rick Springfield, 76, shared a photo via Instagram on Friday, September 26 of the Mary Poppins star, 99, flexing his muscles at the gym.

Clearly impressed by Van Dyke’s commitment to fitness, especially at his age, the musician quipped, “I thought I was doing well at 76.”

Springfield shared more context behind the photo in the post’s caption.

Dick Van Dyke’s Wife Arlene Says 46-Year Age Gap Is ‘Irrelevant’

“Filming an episode of Men’s Health and I went to the gym and who should be there but 99-year-old Dick Van Dyke working out on every machine,” he wrote. “Dick has lived in Malibu for about 30 years and is an awesome human being. I thought I was doing well at 76, but Dick got up from the chest press machine and did a little dance step before I left! ❤️ Amazing!”

The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star has spoken previously about his workout regime, including during an appearance on Ted Danson’s “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast in January 2025.

“Somebody said: ‘To what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’” Van Dyke said. “I said: ‘I’ve always exercised three days a week.’ We go to the gym, still, three days a week, and I think that’s it.”

In the podcast episode, Danson, 77, recalled often seeing Van Dyke at the gym in Malibu.

“If I got there early enough, I would see you literally work out on some weight machines, and then — almost like you were doing circuit training  — you would, not walk, to the next machine, you’d dance!” Danson said.

The Cheers alum continued, “You literally danced to the next machine! And I watched that for a couple of weeks, and finally I talked to you about your exercise, and you said that you would come to the gym and work out… and then you would go home and swim laps for however [long], and then you would get back into bed and take a nap.”

As well as confirming Danson’s recollection of his workout routine was accurate, Van Dyke added he also regularly does other types of exercises.

“I’m doing a lot of stretching and yoga-type things. Sit ups. And they have machines… something for almost every exercise,” Van Dyke added.

Meanwhile, Springfield has also previously shared how he maintains his fit physique in his 70s, crediting his music career as being one of the reasons he’s able to stay in shape.

Dick Van Dyke Sings Mary Poppins Songs With Flash Mob on 90th Birthday

“I exercise every day, and every time I play with my band, it is a two-hour aerobic workout,” the “Jessie’s Girl” singer told People in February 2025. “On the road we’re Planet Fitness whores. Planet Fitness is like the Holiday Inn of workout places — they’re all the same, every place you go.”

In the interview, Springfield also admitted he still feels young at heart despite growing older.

“I still feel like I’m in my 20s in my head,” he told the outlet. “Then I see people dying from old age disease and go, ‘Wow, I’m the same age as old people!’”
