Prince William is opening up to Eugene Levy about his difficult year after two of his loved ones were diagnosed with cancer.
“I’d say 2024 was the hardest year I’ve ever had. You know, life is sent to test us as well, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are,” William, 43, tells Levy in a preview clip from an upcoming episode of Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler.
William’s wife, Princess Kate Middleton, and his father, King Charles III, both announced they were diagnosed with cancer last year. William and Kate, also 43, share three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
Kate announced her diagnosis in March 2024 in a video shared on social media, describing receiving the news as a “huge shock.”
Kate Middleton’s Cancer Battle Timeline: From Diagnosis to Remission
“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK,” she said.
In September 2024, Kate revealed that she had completed chemotherapy, and in January, the princess said she was in remission.
Charles, meanwhile, announced he had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in February 2024. “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement at the time. “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the statement added. “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
Prince William Says Kate Has ‘Long Way to Go’ Despite Being Cancer Free
William recently invited Levy, 78, to Windsor Castle to film the actor’s popular travel program. The episode, titled “Living the Royal Life in the UK,” will air Friday, October 3, on Apple TV+.
In a preview clip released by the streamer on Thursday, September 25, the prince offers Levy a personal tour of the castle and quips, “We provide this service for everyone. We do personalized tours everywhere.”
Elsewhere in the clip, while taking a stroll on the grounds of Windsor Castle, the Schitt’s Creek star asks William, “What do you do when you’re at home?”

“Sleep,” William responds with a laugh. “When you’ve got three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.”
The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy streams weekly on Apple TV+.
