Why ‘NSync’s Plans for a Reunion Tour Are on Hold Indefinitely

‘NSync is saying “Bye Bye Bye” to a reunion — at least for now.

The iconic boy band had been closer than ever to getting back together for a massive stadium tour, but multiple sources exclusively tell Us Weekly that their plans are now on hold indefinitely.

While one insider says JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick “were all on board,” the “timing wasn’t right” for Justin Timberlake because he was on his solo Forget Tomorrow World Tour from April 2024 until this past July and is now battling Lyme disease. (Timberlake, 44, announced his “relentlessly debilitating” diagnosis the day after his final show, writing in part via Instagram, “I honestly don’t know what my future is onstage but I’ll always cherish this run! And all of them before!”)

The insider notes that Chasez, 49, Bass, 46, Fatone, 48, and Kirkpatrick, 53, “don’t want to” hit the road without Timberlake, whom they publicly supported following his health update.

“Proud of you, brother,” Bass wrote via his Instagram Story in July. “Wishing you some well-deserved rest and so much love. Congrats on an amazing tour.”

Kirkpatrick, meanwhile, told his followers that he “couldn’t be more proud” to call Timberlake a friend, adding, “I’ve always known my little bro was tough—but this tour showed me a whole new level of strength. Watching him battle Lyme disease day in and day out, while still getting on that stage night after night, was something I’ll never forget. The long days, the travel, the exhaustion—and yet, he never gave up. No complaints, no excuses—just heart, grit, and pure determination. That kind of resilience is rare.”

Kirkpatrick continued, “Tour life is already a grind, but doing it while fighting Lyme disease? That’s superhero status. Here’s to strength, perseverance, and one hell of a tour. Love you little bro!”

Joey Fatone Says ‘NSync Needs to Talk Before Their Potential Reunion

‘NSync has reunited several times in recent years — most memorably at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, where they performed “Girlfriend” and “Bye Bye Bye” as part of Timberlake’s career-spanning Video Vanguard medley — but they haven’t toured as a fivesome since 2002.

A second source shares that the Grammy-nominated group — who in 2023 released their first new song in two decades, “Better Place,” on Timberlake’s Trolls Band Together soundtrack — “had a lot of things planned” to celebrate their milestone 30th anniversary this year, which are also now postponed.

When the band does finally get back together, fans will be in for a treat, as Fatone teased to Us last year, “If we happen to go on tour and if it happens to take place, people are probably gonna see something they’ve never seen before — and everything they’ve seen before.”

Us Weekly has reached out to reps for Timberlake, Chasez, Bass, Fatone and Kirkpatrick for comment.
