An Ellsworth man is facing multiple charges after he was involved in a road rage incident while his toddler son was in the back of his car, according to police.
Joshua D. Busby, 37, has been charged with a felony count of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon along with other charges, according to Ellsworth Police Department Sgt. Kelvin Mote. The charge stems from Busby’s alleged use of his car to intentionally cause damage.
The incident happened at around 1 p.m. Monday as Busby and another Ellsworth man were driving separate vehicles south on High Street, police said. The two men exchanged “brake checks and cut offs” and were driving erratically before they pulled into the parking lot of a nearby tire store on Short Street, according to a police synopsis of the incident.
Busby is accused of intentionally driving his Jeep Renegade into the other car, a Jeep Compass, according to Mote.
“Witnesses reported that one vehicle rammed the other vehicle once in the parking lot by backing up into it,” police wrote in the synopsis.
Deputy Chief Shawn Willey said that the child, whose age was unavailable, was properly secured in a child booster seat during the incident.
After interviewing witnesses, reviewing video of the altercation and consulting with the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office, police arrested Busby, they wrote in the synopsis. In addition to the felony charge, he also faces misdemeanor charges of driving to endanger, criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and assault.
Busby has since bailed out of Hancock County Jail and is due to appear in court on the charges in November, according to police and jail officials.
