Good morning. Patchy fog and cloudy skies will eventually make way for sunshine and heat, with just a light wind to balance it out. Meanwhile, we’re continuing to cover the fallout from Monday’s rape allegation against Graham Platner, which has upended this year’s U.S. Senate race.

Maine Democrats accuse Graham Platner of trying to influence the race to replace him

The scramble to replace Graham Platner continues with even the oyster farmer’s campaign trying to get in on the action.

The progressive political newcomer from Sullivan is still the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, but the calls for him to step down continue in the wake of an allegation from a former girlfriend that Platner raped her in 2021.

On Tuesday night, Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson posted a video on social media claiming that Platner’s campaign has been trying to influence who is picked to replace him, potentially pressing for an aligned candidate as a condition of dropping out. Murphy-Anderson said the party has been working around the clock “to develop a process to replace our U.S. Senate nominee that is open, inclusive, transparent and fair.”

Meanwhile, another bombshell dropped Tuesday when the Washington Post reported an ex-girlfriend’s allegations that Platner stealthily removed condoms while they had sex without her consent on multiple occasions.
