STONINGTON —Tickets are now on sale for the 2026 summer season at the Stonington Opera House!
Opera House Arts will kick off the summer season in June with our production of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley’s “Outside Mullingar”. This romantic comedy, set on a farm in rural Ireland, features two eccentric souls who fight their way toward solid ground in a funny and heartbreaking journey about how it’s never too late to take a chance on love.
July is packed full of music, dance, magic, puppets and comedy! The 26th Annual Deer Isle Jazz Festival will feature acclaimed saxophonist Yosvany Terry and his quintet performing transcendent jazz with African and Caribbean roots. Dance to the The Soulbenders when they return to our stage, followed by a fantastic Johnny Cash tribute, Anna Conathan’s comedic salute to lessons learned from the stern of a lobster boat and The MetaMarthasis, an award-winning, genre-defying mash up of modern dance, pop music and drag. Danny Holt will play a thrilling evening of contemporary piano, and DownEast New Music will fill the Burnt Cove Church with chamber music and vocals.
In August our stage will feature “Darker the Night, Brighter the Stars”, the newest play by Maine’s favorite playwright John Cariani. “Darker the Night” invites the audience to join young residents of a small town in Maine under the light of a meteor shower as they reveal their loves and losses and discover who they really are at heart. Emmy-winning TV host, author and builder Steve Thomas will present a multimedia literary event based on his book “The Last Navigator”, Acadian Music from Maine will fill the Opera House with French folk traditions and our beloved Broadway Comes to Stonington will close out the month with two concerts featuring John McVeigh, Fred Rose and guests from Broadway and beyond.
All summer long we have affordable thrills for the whole family with our Live! For $5 series. June brings The Frogtown Puppeteers and Hilby, The Skinny German Juggle Boy (look out for the unicycles!). The season continues with Blanc Sur Blanc, the exquisite physical comedy of Iman Lizarazu, the magic of Norman Ng, Nettie Loops and her hula hoops, shadow play with Leland Faulkner and Squirrel Stole My Underpants from The Gottabees out of Boston.
More programs are sure to be added–stay tuned for more announcements to come!
