Pete Davidson is looking back at how his life changed after a 2023 car crash.
“I’m going, like, 140 miles an hour in a 20 and I blew the stop sign, right? Because I didn’t see it. I was going very fast,” Davidson, 32, said during his comedy show at Las Vegas’ The Fontainebleau on Saturday, April 11, according to footage obtained by Us Weekly. “I blew the stop sign, and I had very bad luck. Very bad luck.”
Another driver “blew a stop sign” at the same time Davidson did.
“Now, we’re about to hit each other, and I had to make a quick decision,” he continued. “With the way my luck works, if I hit this guy, he’ll die and I’ll be fine.”
Davidson added, “I was like, ‘F*** that, I’m not killing this guy.’ So I swerve out of the way, right? You’re in a residential [area], you gotta make decisions very fast.”

The comedian explained that he had “two more options” at this point — either hit a “very big tree” or crash into a house.
“I’ve seen people dead wrapped around trees, right? We all have,” he continued. “I didn’t want to be a tree death. F*** that. Every year on the day you died, they gather around the tree. All the f***ing Yankee Candles. Goddamn headshots. They sing songs. … I didn’t want that.”
Once Davidson saw “this big house,” he thought that it was a safer option.
“I’ve never seen someone dead wrapped around a house before. I was like, ‘I don’t think you can wrap around the house.’ I think you just go through [the] house, right? So I aim for the house,” Davidson recalled. “I skipped over the curb, and I slammed right into it. I slammed right into the garage and I went through the garage, which is pretty good. That’s where cars go.”

He continued, “So I slammed through the f***ing garage and I’m trying to get out, but I’m stuck to the f***ing doors going back in. And I started freaking out. … What’s the protocol for this?”
Davidson joked that this was no typical car accident since he was inside someone’s house. Initially, Davidson thought that he was “probably going to jail.”
“Then, I weirdly got calm. I got very calm because I realized that I was sober,” Davidson said. “Then I got weirdly proud. I was like, ‘Good for you. You did this the right way.’”
The Saturday Night Live alum further discussed his sobriety during the show, citing his mom, Amy Davidson, as the reason he got sober.
“I remember my mom popped on the screen, and she was like, ‘Peter, it’s really hard to be your mom. It’s not a fun job,’” he recalled while discussing a Zoom call with his mom during one of his rehab stints. “She went, ‘Enough.’ She f***ed me up. She was, like, ‘Peter, it’s very hard to be your mom because I wake up every morning with the fear that I’ll turn on the news and see that my son has died.’”
He added, “She told me all this on Zoom — from the house that I bought her on drugs. I was like, ‘Someone’s getting used to things.’ That got me sober.”
