Since President Donald Trump took office, this nation has experienced a full-on, unprecedented attack on the United States Constitution. At the beginning of this assault, that was big news. Now, though, many news outlets’ emphasize only the abhorrent acts of this regime. By and large, they ignore how those relate to our Constitution.
What is tragically missing in much reporting is that the promise that was made by our “leaders,” to “… faithfully execute [their] office[s]…[and] to the best of [their] ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States” has been broken. That failure has been embraced by the military, by Trump’s cabinet, and by Congress.
Anyone serving now or who has already served in the nation’s military has taken a similar oath. Today, that’s over 17 million people. Largely, though, it seems that the vast majority of these soldiers have apparently decided that their oath no longer pertains, or that to abide by it would make them a target of Trump’s ire. It would appear to me that the news media agree with them. The blatant undermining of our constitutional laws no longer captures their viewers’, readers’, or radio audiences’ attention.
Trump continues to violate the Constitution with impunity. These breaches will continue. They must be a core part of how events in our government are reported. The people of this nation deserve the truth. We all need to be kept aware of what is at stake as those in control abuse their power.
