PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire —- Portsmouth-based nonprofit Hospice Help Foundation has recently welcomed in a new executive director, Abigail Sherwood. A South Berwick resident, Sherwood comes to us after years in nonprofit leadership and political advocacy. She’s excited to expand the reach of HHF and increase the number of hospice patients we provide financial assistance to.
Hospice Help Foundation’s mission is to provide safety, comfort and dignity to low-income hospice patients and their families. HHF serves patients across New England and beyond.
“I am honored to join Hospice Help Foundation and lead its vital work in supporting individuals and families during one of life’s most vulnerable times,” Sherwood said. “Together with our dedicated team and generous supporters, we will continue to ensure that no hospice patient faces financial hardship alone.”
At the start of 2026 the HHF board of directors was fortunate to gain two stellar new members also from Maine, Tina Cunningham and Norma Marshall.
Cunningham is a human resources professional with 40 years of experience in recruitment, benefits and employee relations. She has worked in manufacturing, finance and healthcare for organizations including Stonewall Kitchen, Timberland, Bank of America and York Hospital. Currently, she works at Waypoint Maine in benefits and compliance. Cunningham is a lifelong volunteer who has worked as a literacy volunteer, shut-in visitor, campaign coordinator and adult special needs assistant. Together, she and her husband have established a private charitable foundation focused on supporting educational and environmental issues. In her free time, Cunningham enjoys gardening, singing in a choir and needlework. She lives in Eliot with her husband Mark, dog Skeet and cat Peep.
Marshall is a homegrown Mainer who grew up in Kittery. She was an RN for 34 years and is now retired. Marshall had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings: NICU and OB unit, pediatric home care, school nursing when her kiddos were in school, director of nursing for rehab and long-term care and case management for a busy family practice. She is a new board member for Aging in Place in her community of Eliot. Marshall has a large family with three adult children and eight crazy active grandchildren she adores. She loves the outdoors, and enjoys music, reading, good friends and staying physically active.
