Police arrested Adam Thomas at the scene after officers recovered a revolver from his jacket pocket, which contained one spent cartridge.
Thomas, 21, told police that he and Deglow had been watching TV and “smoking” before the shooting took place. He claimed that he picked up the gun and tossed it, which was when it accidentally went off.
Police also spoke to witnesses inside the apartment, who said that Thomas had a habit of taking out his gun and pointing it at people in a seemingly playful manner. Meanwhile, one witness told authorities that they heard Thomas saying that the gun had misfired immediately after the shooting occurred.
Thomas is currently being held at Metro Corrections. He made his first appearance in court on the morning of Wednesday, April 8, for his arraignment, where he pleaded not guilty. A judge set his bond at $500,000 cash.
He is next scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, April 16.
It is not currently clear if Thomas has retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Jeffersontown Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment regarding the case.
