‘Nite Show Live’ will be a fundraiser for Brewer Community School music and theatre programs
BANGOR – “The Nite Show” is coming back for one night only in a live event to honor George Hale. The show will be a ticketed, live show, serving as a fundraiser for the Brewer Community School’s music and theatre programs. Intended as a live audience-only event, the show will now be televised to a statewide audience. As a result of the television production, the location for the show is being moved to “The Nite Show’s” home for more than a decade, the Gracie Theatre on the campus of Husson University.
“There has been incredible response to The Nite Show returning for one night only to honor George Hale,” said host Danny Cashman. “It’s all moved very quickly, but one of the most frequently asked questions is if we can televise it. I’m happy to say that we’ve once again partnered up with the talented team at the New England School of Communications at Husson University, and all of our TV partners, to bring a magical night of television into homes all over the state of Maine.”
The live show will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at the Gracie Theatre. Tickets are $20 and are available on “The Nite Show’s” website, www.TheNiteShowMaine.com. Brian Nadeau & The Nite Show Band will be returning for the event, as will announcer Mark Nason and host Dan Cashman.
The show will be televised at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 8 on WABI TV5 in Bangor and on WAGM FOX8 in Presque Isle. The show will also air in Portland at noon on Saturday, May 9 on FOX 23.
“You cannot think of WABI TV without thinking of George Hale,” said Cashman. “He started at that station the year they signed on the air, 73 years ago. In that time, he has become a Maine broadcasting institution, and we are thrilled to not only bring our show back to talk with him and some of his friends in broadcasting, but also to continue to allow the live event to serve as a fundraiser for music and theatre programs at the Brewer Community School.”
“The Nite Show Live” will follow the familiar format of the televised version of the show with an opening monologue, sketches, guests and music. In this case, many of the sketches will be those done over the years featuring Hale. Hale will be a guest on the show, with several surprise guests who worked with – and for – the Maine broadcasting legend over the past 73 years. Additionally, the plan is to show some archived footage of Hale’s time at WABI-TV in Bangor.
“We are making this show as focused on George as possible, but it will still be in the format of The Nite Show,” Cashman said. “It’s the only show I truly know how to do, and there are three or four monologue jokes that never got used, so I’ll dust those off and see what happens.”
Hale’s broadcasting career is well documented and unprecedented. He is a member of the Maine Broadcasting Hall of Fame, Sports Legends Hall of Fame and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. He has also received the New England Sportswriters Award, Maine Sportscaster of the Year Award and the Gold Circle Award from the New England Academy of Television Arts & Sciences honoring more than 50 years in television.
Tickets are $20 and are available on “The Nite Show’s” website, www.TheNiteShowMaine.com.
“The Nite Show Live” is a production of Cashman Communications, in association with Gray Broadcasting, INC.
