As if Doc’s two-part finale wasn’t already explosive enough, Blair Underwood will be making his debut as a mysterious — but intriguing — newcomer at Westside Hospital.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive first look at the Tuesday, April 14, finale of the hit Fox series, Underwood makes an appearance as Dr. Ben Grant. He is seen meeting Amy (Molly Parker) and Jake (Jon Ecker) before scrubbing in with the rest of the staff.
A character bio was previously released for Underwood’s character, which described Ben as someone who goes on “a collision course” with Amy.
“Dr. Ben Grant is a world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon with an ego that somehow outpaces even his resume. A once-in-a-generation talent with the swagger to match, he doesn’t just save lives — he owns the OR,” the description teased. “Impossibly magnetic and even more confident, he’s never not been the smartest person in the room … until he meets Dr. Amy Larsen.”
Which ‘Doc’ Stars Are — And Aren’t — Returning for Season 2?
The bio continued: “Almost instantly, their approaches clash, egos collide, and sparks fly like Westside has never seen. Together, their brilliance is unmatched — as long as they can survive each other.”

Underwood, 61, is expected to play a large role in season 3. The season 2 finale, meanwhile, will center around a “mysterious, fast-acting and extremely deadly virus” that triggers an emergency lockdown on the sixth floor of Westside Hospital.
“Then, in an effort to save a crashing Richard from a deadly virus, Amy gets infected with it,” the synopsis continues. “Michael and the team work tirelessly to help her and the other patients, but their experimental treatments fail, and Amy becomes critically ill.”
How the New Slate of Medical TV Shows Differ From Each Other
Inspired by a true story, Fox’s Doc follows the chief of internal medicine at a fictional hospital in Minneapolis who suffers a traumatic brain injury in a car accident that causes her to lose her memory of the last eight years.

Amy not only has to remember her medical career and build a new life, but she also needs to come to terms with a shocking divorce from her husband and a death that changes the course of her future.
In addition to Parker, 53, Ecker, 43, and Underwood, Doc also stars Amirah Vann, Omar Metwally, Anya Banerjee, Patrick Walker, Charlotte Fountain-Jardim and Felicity Huffman.
Season 2 also featured Scott Wolf‘s return after he briefly departed the show at the end of the previous season.
Doc season 2 concludes on Fox Tuesday, April 14, at 8 p.m. ET.
