The driver of a rental box truck went off Interstate 95 and into the woods early Friday morning in the Penobscot County town of Howland.

The crash on the northbound side of the highway near mile marker 220 was reported just after 5 a.m. Police found a Penske box truck on its side about 50 feet off the road in some trees, according to Maine State Police.

The driver, 55-year-old Kwasi Baidu of Bangor, was trapped in the cab and had to be freed by Howland rescue workers. He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with minor injuries, according to police.

Police said speed and road conditions from snow and rain were probably factors in the crash.

One lane of the interstate was closed for several hours while the truck was removed.
