Influencer Abby Howard doesn’t understand the stigma around couples having sex for the first time on their wedding night.
“I feel like there is so much messaging that is so negative toward waiting ‘till the night, like, ‘It’s going to be so awkward, it’s going to be so embarrassing and terrible and not going to work,’” Howard, 27, said on the Friday, April 3, episode of her “Always Here” podcast. “I just think that’s not true, at least in our experience.”
Abby married her husband, Matt Howard, in 2019 when they were 20 and 21, respectively. The couple waited to consummate their relationship until their wedding night.
“If anything, it was very, very wholesome and sweet and beautiful,” Abby recalled to her podcast cohost and sister-in-law Abigail Howard. “I think, at this point, there’s certainly excitement about something new, but it’s not like you’re going to be necessarily nervous ‘cause you are with your person.”

She continued, “There’s so much comfort toward that than a random one-off. There’s just so much history [and] so much relationship, you know they’re not looking for anything other than to connect with you.”
Abby further claimed that her first time with Matt, now 27, was “never once awkward.”
“We did wait until the day of the wedding and it was beautifully intimate, special [and] wholesome,” she said. “We certainly laughed and we’re experiencing new things together, but you don’t have to have this expectation. I’m not saying that it’s going to be the most romantic, crazy night of your life — but in a way it will — [but it] doesn’t look like the movies because it’s so intimate and special.”
Since tying the knot, Abby and Matt have expanded their family with sons August and Griffin. They are currently expecting their rainbow baby after Abby suffered a pregnancy loss in 2025.

“I think we’ve had relatively good lives, and two or three years ago, I remember having this conversation with you about, like, ‘Wow, things have gotten so good,’” Matt told Abby on a December 2025 episode of their “Unplanned” podcast. “It was like, ‘What could possibly go wrong?’ I feel like this was the thing [that was] for us.”
He added at the time, “It really changed my perspective, like, it really is so sad how … awful this world can be. It’s so hard to work though that with your spouse, but we’re getting through it and things are looking up.”
