Reese Witherspoon has mastered the impossible: getting along with her exes.
“She is very close to Ryan [Phillippe],” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “They have been coparenting through the years, and they are friends.”
Witherspoon — who celebrated her milestone 50th birthday on March 22 — was married to Phillippe, 51, from June 1999 to October 2007. The Cruel Intentions costars share two children: daughter Ava, 26, and son Deacon, 22.
“Since her divorce from Ryan, she has been supportive of her kids going into the entertainment industry,” the insider says. “Anything they want to do, they are both supportive.”
Reese Witherspoon’s Dating History: Ryan Phillippe, Jim Toth and More
University of California, Berkeley, graduate Ava initially pursued a modeling career before pivoting to acting last year, appearing in TV shows such as Doctor Odyssey and Ransom Canyon. Meanwhile, Deacon is currently studying music at New York University and has also followed in his parents’ footsteps with roles in Never Have I Ever and Motorheads.

Witherspoon remains close with her second ex-husband, Jim Toth, as well. They were married from March 2011 to August 2023 and share son Tennessee, 13.
“They are good friends and talk every day,” a second source tells Us. “They collaborate and coparent and are completely amicable with no bad blood.”
Since her divorce from the former talent agent, the Oscar-winning Walk the Line star has been “living in Nashville full-time” and “barely ever” visits Los Angeles, according to the first insider.
“She loves it there. It is similar to her upbringing,” the source explains of Witherspoon, who was born in New Orleans but moved to Nashville as a child. “It’s a small, quiet existence for her. She feels attracted to Tennessee to live a simple life outside of her big career. There’s always so much going on, and her home base is similar to her upbringing. It’s quiet versus her chaotic work life. It makes her happy.”
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s Ups and Downs Over the Years
After all, the insider notes that the Big Little Lies star has “never been into all the Hollywood events” despite her three-decade career in the entertainment industry.
“She is more low-key when she isn’t working,” the source adds. “It’s more her vibe and aligns with her personal life.”
Witherspoon may be legally single again, but she has been dating financier Oliver Haarmann since mid-2024.
“It’s going well, but she is super private about it, as she has always been,” the insider tells Us. “She wants a partner but isn’t really looking for marriage again.”
