Police believe they have found the person behind a 2022 fire at a convenience store in the Penobscot County town of Howland.
Samantha Randall, 39, was indicted by a grand jury on arson charges and was arrested Friday on a warrant related to the indictment, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
The fire at the Howland Corner Store on Water Street on Nov. 2, 2022, started in the kitchen of the building. Firefighters from five towns responded shortly after 9 p.m. and spent 45 minutes putting out the blaze, which left the kitchen and convenience store area damaged.
At the time, the fire marshal’s office said the cause was unknown, but it did not seem suspicious.
Randall was arrested “following an extensive criminal and financial investigation,” the fire marshal’s office said, but did not provide details about that investigation or the case against Randall.
The fire marshal’s office said additional arrests or charges are expected.
