Season 4 of Will Trent is building up to some big surprises — and not all of them fans will see coming.
“It is going to be a real emotional roller-coaster. It really is,” Ramón Rodríguez, who portrays the titular character, exclusively teased to Us Weekly about what is to come. “There’ll be highs and definite lows. So questions will be answered.”
Rodríguez, 46, is excited for viewers to see how the story unfolds.
“It’s been fun seeing Will realize this new normal in his life with the new relationship with Angie and Seth. It’s been great watching them understand this new friendship territory,” he noted. “Meanwhile, he’s had Ava come in his life and give him these great gems of like, ‘Hey, not everything has to be so serious.’”
Which ‘Will Trent’ Stars Are — And Aren’t — Returning After Possible Deaths?
The best part of this season for Rodríguez has been seeing how mental health is explored, saying, “Watching him undergo therapy … what I love about this character is he’s just very real and feels like a real person in the sense of how he’s gone through a lot. He’s trying to do his best. He takes steps forward and then he falls and he takes steps back. I just think with his resilience and perseverance — hopefully we root for him to continue trying to figure it out and move forward in life.”
Rodríguez continued: “It is the real thing to root for because it feels very relatable. We all are trying to get by day by day and make the most of every moment and every day and do better. And that’s Will at his core. He’s had very clear things that he likes. He’d love to have a family and he’s all about his job — but he does get knocked down. I think it makes him very relatable when you see a person who’s just struggling with all the things he deals with and is trying to do better.”
Did You Catch Sam Smith’s Cameo on ‘And Just Like That’?
Based on a book by Karin Slaughter, Will Trent follows a special agent at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who was abandoned at birth and grew up in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Will now relies on his unique perspective while pursuing justice, resulting in the highest clearance rate in the GBI.
In addition to Rodríguez, the show stars Erika Christensen, Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, Sonja Sohn and Kevin Daniels.
“I’d love to get Bad Bunny on the show. That would be fantastic — and that means we’re going to Puerto Rico,” Rodríguez noted about the Puerto Rican rapper. “So I’d love to go back to Puerto Rico and spend more time there.”
Will Trent airs on ABC Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
