Sheinelle Jones got emotional discussing her late husband, Uche Ojeh, nearly one year after his death.
Jones, 47, announced a tour in support of her upcoming book, Through Mom’s Eyes, during the Monday, March 23, episode of Today. The anchor held back tears while telling viewers how her husband championed the book before he died.
“I think I’m gonna cry,” Jones said on Monday while discussing her upcoming project. “When I started writing this book, I was so eager to learn from so many of the moms that we admire.”
Jones’ book, inspired by her Today series of the same name, features the lessons she has learned from several women throughout her lifetime, but what emerged was “a powerful theme of resilience,” she said. Through Mom’s Eyes is set to be released on Tuesday, April 14, and Jones will embark on an eight-city book tour that week.
“This was supposed to come out last spring, and the truth is, my husband, Uche, got really sick while I was writing this, and he pushed me to keep going,” she recalled. “So I pushed this for a year after he passed because I wanted to be with him and the kids. But I promised him that I wouldn’t give this up.”

During Monday’s broadcast, Jones also showed a photo of Ojeh alongside her grandmother, who died seven months after her husband. Jones said these were the two people “who believed in me most” when it came to publishing her book.
Ojeh died at age 45 in March 2025 following a battle with brain cancer.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our dear friend and Today cohost Sheinelle Jones has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” fellow Today anchor Savannah Guthrie announced at the time.
Jones was married to Ojeh for 17 years before his death. They shared son Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13.
“There are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,” Guthrie continued during the May 2025 broadcast. “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.”

Jones took an extended absence from her role on Today, starting in December 2024. Initially details about her leave were not disclosed, with Jones telling viewers that she was dealing with a family matter.
Jones returned to the show in September 2025, four months after Ojeh’s death. At the time, she sat down with Guthrie for an emotional interview.
“In this moment, I’m OK. Day-to-day, I’m OK,” Jones said at the time. “From a macro picture, how am I doing? My heart is shattered in a million pieces.”
She added, “The life that I’ve known since I was 19 is no more. I always wanted kids, and I have three kids of my own now and they lost their dad. I’m their mom, and it sucks. So, how am I doing? It’s day-to-day. I’m proud of myself for how I’ve coped so far. I’m proud of my kids for how we’ve been able to pull through, but it’s horrible.”
