Furniture, Mattresses and More, the furniture store connected to the Bangor Mall, has been sold to an out-of-state company, owner Kathy Harvey said Friday.
The company “unexpectedly” contacted Harvey and made an offer to buy the land and building, she said. Harvey didn’t have the building and land posted for sale, but the company made her a “very good offer” that she couldn’t refuse, she said.
Harvey did not share who the buyer was or any additional details about the sale.
Although the sale comes during a tumultuous period for the Bangor Mall where the owner has been ordered to pay more than $1 million in fines due to code violations, Harvey said the sale has nothing to do with the mall’s condition or legal proceedings. She has owned the land and building and is not associated with the mall owner, she said.
Harvey said the buyers reached out to her because they liked the building and location.
“They said it was the best building in Bangor. I mean, look at it,” she said.
Because the new owners don’t need any of her inventory, the store is holding a 50% off sale. The sale does not have an end date and will run until everything is sold, Harvey said.
Harvey did not say when the new owners would move into the building.
Harvey is retiring from the furniture business, she said, but will continue to organize the Bangor Mall Craft Fair and run her deep dish cookie company.
