OLD TOWN — From 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 29 Literacy Volunteers of Bangor will host the Marvin & Sheri Glazier Literacy Tea. This year the Literacy Tea will be at a new location, the Old Town Elementary School at 576 Stillwater Ave. The Literacy Tea is a family-friendly fundraiser and celebration of reading for all ages.

This year, LVB welcomes Glenburn native and children’s author Casey W. Robinson to share her award-winning book “Small Things Mended”. Guests can purchase Robinson’s books and have their books personally signed at the event. Additionally, Island Readers & Writers will be hosting a Doll Hospital where they “Mend Small Things!” Children are encouraged to bring a doll or stuffed animal to this station for a quick stitch, brushing or band aid.
All tea guests are encouraged to tour a “living library” of more than 30 tables, each uniquely designed around a different children’s book. Snacks, sweets and, of course, tea courtesy of Tea Maineia of Winterport, are provided.
The Literacy Tea supports Literacy Volunteers of Bangor and its adult and family literacy programming. LVB raises its operating budget each year and helps to change the lives of hundreds of adults annually with a personal tutor. This event is its largest fundraiser and includes the support of more than 60 businesses, including lead sponsors: Epstein Commercial Real Estate, News Center Maine, The Bangor Daily News, Cyr Northstar Tours / Cyr Bus Lines, Darling’s Auto Group, the Grasshopper Shop at BIA and University of Maine-College of Education & Human Development.
Robinson is an award-winning writer of children’s books and poetry. Her latest picture book “Small Things Mended” is a New England Book Award winner, a Christopher Award winner, a Crystal Kite Award winner and received a 2025 Massachusetts Book Award Honor. It was also chosen for School Library Journal’s Best Picture Books 2024 list. Her debut picture book “Iver and Ellsworth” was a finalist for the Crystal Kite Award and Pennsylvania Young Reader’s Choice Award.
Richardson grew up in Maine and used to keep a shoebox of favorite words and phrases under her bed. She now lives with her family just west of Boston, in a yellow house overflowing with books.
