Right now, you can check out Reminders of Him in theaters — the new Colleen Hoover adaptation that is as wild and emotionally manipulative as any other.
The plot follows Kenna (Maika Monroe), who kills her boyfriend (Rudy Pankow) in a drunk driving accident. When she gets out of prison, she enters into a steamy romance with a local bartender (Tyriq Withers) while struggling to see her daughter.
If you can’t get enough of films like this one, Watch With Us has some recommendations for other toxic relationship melodramas.
Of course, a list like this wouldn’t be complete without a couple more Hoover adaptations.

‘It Ends with Us’ (2024) — Netflix
In the wake of the death of her father, the aptly named Lily Bloom (Blake Lively) moves to Boston to open up a flower shop, and it’s there that she meets handsome, charismatic neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni). When she hires his sister (Jenny Slate) by chance, Lily and Ryle strike up a flirtation that morphs into an intense romance. As the two progress in their picture-perfect relationship, Lily soon comes to be aware of Ryle’s darker side, and she soon realizes she’s found herself in an intergenerational cycle of abuse.
While the adaptation of Hoover’s It Ends with Us is inextricably mired in the ongoing legal scandals that have plagued its chief creatives Lively and Baldoni, it’s still watchable for its intriguing brand of questionable domestic abuse drama. It Ends with Us isn’t necessarily a “good movie,” but it always entertains — even if that’s maybe not for all the right reasons. Inarguably, though, it’s a very compelling soap opera thriller, and Lively gives a committed, believable performance.
‘Regretting You’ (2025) — Paramount+
After becoming pregnant at seventeen, Morgan (Allison Williams) raises her now-teenage daughter, Clara (Mckenna Grace), alongside her husband and high school boyfriend, Chris (Scott Eastwood). Meanwhile, Morgan and Jonah (Dave Franco), her sister Jenny’s (Willa Fitzgerald) partner, harbor secret feelings for one another. After a tragic accident occurs, long-held family secrets between both families are finally forced to the light, as Morgan and Jonah must confront their feelings for one another while Morgan battles a blustery relationship with Clara.
Another Hoover adaptation, Regretting You has enough shocking scandals, surprise reveals and some goofy decisions that made the movie a perfect watch for incredulous and unsuspecting theater-goers upon release. Though this may not be a high-quality picture, it’s certainly an entertaining one. At one point, a character literally sits down with a glass of wine to watch The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. There are absurd lines of dialogue that no human being would ever utter in normal conversation, like “My soul is dying.”
‘Regretting You’ Sets Late December Streaming Date on Paramount+ (Exclusive)
‘The Idea of You’ (2024) — Amazon Prime Video
The thing about The Idea of You that makes it so crazy is that it’s literally adapted from what is essentially a Harry Styles fanfic; yes, you heard that right. The Idea of You comes from Robinne Lee‘s novel of the same name from 2017 that details the affair between a 39-year-old art gallery owner (played by Anne Hathaway) and a gorgeous, 20-year-old English boyband singer (Nicholas Galitzine). The thing is, that boyband singer is based on Styles, and the story came from West spending time watching One Direction music videos.
Galitzine and Hathaway spend a lot of The Idea of You crying, despite the premise being the escapist fantasy of every woman ages 12 to infinity. Meet the singer of your favorite boy band by chance and start a whirlwind romance with him? What’s not to be happy about? But apparently, there isn’t, as the star-crossed lovers get constantly misty-eyed and end up breaking up a whopping three times throughout the course of the film. The movie isn’t without earnest charms, though, and Galitzine and Hathaway are unironically fantastic.
